PENANG : Malaysia is celebrating its 53 years of independence this year with the theme “1 Malaysia, Generates Transformation.”
The current Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib bin Abdul Razak stressed on the unity of its people as he believes that only with the unity and team work of its entire people, Malaysia can step over the border from being a developing country into a fully developed country.
In accordance to the theme, Torch Pub and Bistro located in Casa Permai 32 has launched a Merdeka Eve Celebration where the first group of people with at least three races arrived will be given a free walk in tickets and a free flow of a choice of soft drinks.
“Despite us being a multiracial country, we do not judge people by their colour. At the end of the day, as long as you are a friend not a foe, then you are one of us,” said Surein the owner of Torch Pub and Bistro.
Bascal Hooger who is a Swiss also commented that “I have been living here for five years and I am still amazed by the people here.
“Unlike my country where fight happen between people of the same race, over here, people lived peacefully and even at nights, all of them gathered to have fun.”
It is a fair sight in Penang Island to see people of different races blend together as they no longer see each other as people of different races but plainly as individuals with their own differences.
A Penangite said that “I grew up in an environment where everybody looks different but nothing is wrong with that.
“We may have different hair colours but we have practically shared half our lives together. So what if we don’t look the same? It’s not like having a darker skin makes me better or worse.”
Truly Malaysia is in the right path to achieve its Independence theme, ‘One Malaysia’ as its people are beginning to live as one.
